Banana Fish

Ash Lynx was a blonde 17 years old man and was currently the leader of a small mafia gang. It was midnight New York city when he encountered a stranger, who was lumbering through a dark alley. The stranger was calling out for help, and fell down as Ash approached him, revealed a gunshot wound on his back. He then took out a necklace, gave it to Ash, and told him an address. The moment the stranger died, the two members of Ash's gang arrived at the scene as well as the police. The three of them ran off. The two members were ordered by Dino Golzine- a leader of a tremendous yakuza system- to murder that stranger. The next morning, Ash went to Dino's mansion to declare the incident and to find out his motive, but didn't mention the necklace. The old guy brushed it off. What was happening at the time?
